Adventures in Cowtown

Our son is a cowboy. It’s not that he dresses up like one, although he does, it’s that he truly believes in his heart that he’s a cowboy. I like to think I have something to do with this, that somehow he is genetically programmed to be a cowboy. I also believe he has memories of being a cowboy in a past life. When he sees a picture of Jessie, the cowgirl in Toy Story, he tells me her name is Annie. We do not know any Annie’s but he is convinced that’s her name. I think he’s remembering Annie Oakley.

Mayme and Grumps are also partly responsible, just last week Patty sent him three of Terry’s ropin’ magazines. Vin reads them cover to cover everyday, he’s even taken to sleeping with this stick horse. The magazines are called SuperLooper and Spin to Win both of which are funny names to hear him say.

Tonight we took him to the Mesquite rodeo and he had an absolute blast. He danced and watched wide eyed at the events. On the way home I asked him…

Me: “Vin, what event to you want to enter when you grow up?”
Vin: “I want bucking horse”
Me: “Bareback or saddle bronc?”
Vin: “Saddle Bronc”

The scary thing is, he actually knows the difference.

This was taken in Llano a few weeks ago after he rode Hanah the horse. This is Martin showing him how to properly ride a “bull”. He did pretty good for his first time out.

Many years ago Mat won this donkey at a roadside carnival and gave it to our Mom. She’s always had it out and about and even gives him ribbons and bows to match the season. She almost threw it out but decided to save him. Good thing since Vin loves to ride donkey. He grabs the ears and he’s off.
