Adventures in Cowtown

Our son is a cowboy. It’s not that he dresses up like one, although he does, it’s that he truly believes in his heart that he’s a cowboy. I like to think I have something to do with this, that somehow he is genetically programmed to be a cowboy. I also believe he has memories of being a cowboy in a past life. When he sees a picture of Jessie, the cowgirl in Toy Story, he tells me her name is Annie. We do not know any Annie’s but he is convinced that’s her name. I think he’s remembering Annie Oakley.

Mayme and Grumps are also partly responsible, just last week Patty sent him three of Terry’s ropin’ magazines. Vin reads them cover to cover everyday, he’s even taken to sleeping with this stick horse. The magazines are called SuperLooper and Spin to Win both of which are funny names to hear him say.

Tonight we took him to the Mesquite rodeo and he had an absolute blast. He danced and watched wide eyed at the events. On the way home I asked him…

Me: “Vin, what event to you want to enter when you grow up?”
Vin: “I want bucking horse”
Me: “Bareback or saddle bronc?”
Vin: “Saddle Bronc”

The scary thing is, he actually knows the difference.

This was taken in Llano a few weeks ago after he rode Hanah the horse. This is Martin showing him how to properly ride a “bull”. He did pretty good for his first time out.

Many years ago Mat won this donkey at a roadside carnival and gave it to our Mom. She’s always had it out and about and even gives him ribbons and bows to match the season. She almost threw it out but decided to save him. Good thing since Vin loves to ride donkey. He grabs the ears and he’s off.

Birthday Weekend

I'm finally getting around to posting my birthday pictures from Llano.

It was one of the best birthday's I've ever had. It was just Teri, Mayme, Vin and I and we simply ate, drank, relaxed and laughed at Vin's antics for three days.

Mayme brought me three of my favorite things from the Texas Panhandle 1. Edes Jerkey 2. Cherry Lime Slush 3. Belmar Birthday Cake

Notice the straws instead of candles. This was how I found out there were Cherry Limes in the freezer!

A date night at August E's in Fredricksburg. Champagne and sushi, the perfect combination.

Urban Cowboy

My computer has a virus and is in the shop. I've borrowed Leslie's for the day so I can get my online courses up and running before Monday. I have so much to post from last weekend but no time! This is Vin from last night. Poor kid, Teri took him to Chilis dressed like this.

God bless Teri & Wendy Perdue

I’ve had an absolutely perfect Saturday and wanted to share.
First, it’s super fun having Leslie live in Dallas. Leslie, like Deana, is one of my oldest friends. She’s just about 5 minutes down the street which means that “popping in” to say say hello is easy. What a treat to have gotten to spend time with both of them this summer.

This morning Leslie and I went garage saling and gathering coupons. Then we did some more shopping and had lunch and a beer at The Porch.
When we got home, Leslie watched Vin while Teri and I ran to Home Depot.
Then they all went to Jeffrey’s to swim and I stayed home to have some alone time.
Oh thank you Teri for understanding that a night home alone is the greatest gift you can give me. So… how does a dork spend alone time? I couponed my little heart out!

Here’s my grand total.

8 Tubes Colgate Toothpaste
4 Bottles Visine
3 Huggies Wipes
2 Mitchum Deodorants
2 Boxes Easy Mac (12 total packages)
2 Index Card Packs
2 Bottles Gummie Vitamins
2 Orbit Gum
1 Prescription
1 Schick Hydro Razor
1 Schick Hydro Shave Gel
1 Ceramic Flat Iron

Total Spent 14.08
Total Saved 107.77
With $5.00 CVS bucks to spend on my next trip!

At Wal-Green’s I bought 4 boxes of Visine, 3 Huggies wipes, and 2 packs of notecards for a grand total of 1¢! Yes that’s right one cent, and I had to add the note cards so I wouldn't be negative!

And here’s the greatest thing about all this loot. We'll use all of it. It's all items that I'd regularly buy at full price but am now stocked up for weeks if not months to come. The only exception to this is the Visine.

So you may be asking what I’ll do with 4 boxes of Visine, and if I was still in “college” I’m sure I’d use them up quite quickly. But alas, I am not in “college” so I’ll sell them in the next garage sale for $1.00 a piece and make $4.00 off of them.

God Bless Wendy Perdue for teaching me how to save this much money! Our life and our finances have changed since I started seriously couponing. Thank you Wendy for showing me how to take control of our money and make wise decisions.

Food and Friends

Here's a look at our summer of food and friends.

Cookie dough beaters with Bodhi.

Pretend cooking with Finley.
Finley looooves flour - Vin not so much.

What happens when Teri is out of town? Wine, cheese, olives, cookies and spades!

A visit with Stacey & Tiffany Timmons. They took us to Hideout Burger in Midlothian. Delicious!

A evening of gossip with the girls. Welcome to Dallas Leslie!
