Gay Pride 2012

The Gay Pride parade is a special day for us. It always has been. It officially celebrates the 1969 Stonewall Riots that kicked off the gay rights movement but it's also a personal celebration of our lives. Teri and I don't consider ourselves "big time gays" and since having the boys we're just like all the families in our neighborhood, we just happen to have two mommies. However, we are different and I want the boys to know how special we are.

Before we went to the parade, I had a small talk with Vin about why were were going and what it meant. I kept it simple but I laid the foundation for him to understand and for him to be proud of who we are.

Vincent had a fantastic time. He is really into rainbows, and I mean really into rainbows. He talks about rainbow cars, rainbow hair, rainbow pencils all the time. He mentions rainbows at least 10 times a day - I'm not kidding.
For example, at school they have a treasure box for a reward system.
For his first pick into the treasure box he said, "Mom, I saw that rainbow pencil and I just snatched it right up!" He was so pleased with it.

We knew he was going to just loose it when he saw all the rainbows at the parade, and we were not disappointed.
About the middle of the day, he looked up at me and said "Mom, thank you for bringing me to this, I'm having a really nice time." He was so sincere I scooped him up and cried into his neck. Then because he knew he hit my sweet spot, he poured it on thick and said, "and you look beautiful today."
At that point, I almost melted into the sidewalk!

My intention was to put the rainbow leggings on Reese, but again Vin "snatched" them right up.

Having lots of fun despite the rain.

Everyone gave him a string of beads and made sure he was taken care of. He had is picture made several times and ate all the attention right up.

The Pool has Begun!

After what seems like forever in the planning stage, our pool has finally begun.
Yesterday they dug the hole using 2 Bobcats and today they've started the steel support structure.

Vin was shocked to come home and find a huge hole in his backyard. We invited Zen down to watch the digging too since 4 year old boys love loud productive machines.

The concrete base should be in by the end of the week and with any luck we'll be swimming in  4 weeks. Probably just a time or two, but enough to say we did.
