The bonus for Vin was that he was tall enough to reach the fruit.

This was taken while Mayme and I got the instructions from the farmer. Vin took 2 peaches from the tasting sample box, found an orange traffic cone to use as a back support and then sat down to enjoy his snack. It was so funny how he found himself this "comfy" seat in the dirt. He didn't stop "double fisting" peaches the entire time we were there. In fact, he ate so many while we were in Llano that I initially thought the mouth sores from the hand, foot and mouth virus were from peach acid.

Peach Picking
Our third annual berry picking trip ended up as Peach Picking. Mayme and I decided it was much more fun and much less work to pick peaches instead of blackberries. Blackberries require gloves to avoid thorn injuries and they aren't nearly as delicious as a juicy peach.

Summer is Here!
I really like summer and although I know that this hot weather is here until October I’m embracing all things summer. We kicked it off right this weekend by swimming in our pool, grilling out and we went to Aunt Tara’s for a cookout, we’ve been eating out of the garden and making homemade ice cream.
After our week of “hand, foot and mouth” illness we were itching to get out of the house. So we went to the City Art festival at Fair Park.

My New Garden Blog
I’m starting a new blog devoted to our garden. In the last few months I’ve noticed just how much I like being out there, digging in the dirt and watching the evolution of all the plants.
I decided to blog about it because it’s the easiest way to keep up with the date things were planted, fertilized and harvested. I can tag pictures and themes for quick reference and I know it will be there next year when I start the spring season over again.
I am learning each day and I do not profess to be a very good gardener (yet) so this blog is primarily for my own benefit. I’ve also realized that it’s hard to capture the beauty and bounty of plants in pictures because it all just looks green. But again, it’s only for my benefit so I’m not going to worry about shadows and such. If you want to see what’s “growing on” in the De Leon garden feel free to visit online or in person!
The one thing I will share here are these pictures. My most favorite plant right now is this pumpkin. She emerged a few weeks ago on her own (a volunteer) but at that time I didn’t know if she was a pumpkin or a squash plant. I hoped she was a pumpkin from last years failed attempt and she is! I am so excited and this week I noticed another one coming up too. The fun part will be when I hand pollinate this week.
Did you know that there are male flowers and female flowers? This reminds me of the Grease 2 and the reproduction song.
Ok here’s the pics

Pictured here: potatoes, cabbage, beets, lettuce, spinach, green beans and corn.

In this plot: tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, basil, peppers, cantaloupe and watermelon.

My pumpkin plant!

Beets and salad from our dinner last week, both from seed.

Happy Birthday Vincent!
Today Vincent is 3 years old, although if you ask him he's 4.
He awoke this morning to find a fully prepared birthday table. We sang him happy birthday and he was so happy. Watch his face fill with joy as we sing to him. It will melt your heart.

Inspiration!
I just got this catalog in the mail today and … I’m in love!
Serena and Lily
Serena and Lily
I’ve never heard of this brand before and can’t afford a single thing. I mean, they’re selling one yard of cotton fabric for $50 but I’m totally in love!
I swear… I love history but I think I love fabric more! Once when I was in college my stomach turned flips (like what happens in a really good kiss) except I was looking at a bin of fabric. I know that’s embarrassing and I shouldn’t tell that story but I serioulsy love fabric.
This is my latest purchase and I still haven't figured out what to do with it. Isn't it gorgeous! It's the perfect mix of Kam and Teri.
Everyone please pray that my Maymester class does not make so I can sew for the next 6 weeks!
