We love Mayme and Grumps!

Mayme and Grumps gave us the best gift last week – the gift of time. They asked if they could take Vin for the week and we happily sent him off to play with the cows and horses. While he was gone, Teri and I went out to dinner and to a birthday party, we watched movies (in the middle of the afternoon!), but most of all we did house projects getting the garden and backyard ready for the spring and summer.
I’ll post some additional pictures of our projects soon, but for now here is our garden.

Peppers
Broccoli

Lettuce

The fence, Teri was the genius behind the fence design then I did all the heavy lifting, hammering, cementing etc.

New pillows, thanks to the Wisteria clearance sale.

And no post would be complete without a little Vin. He's eating an asparagus but it didn't come from our garden (yet).

Cupcake Face

This is Vin's "Cupcake Face". The first was taken last May at Sienna's birthday and the second was taken yesterday at Jackson's birthday party. In both he seems so contemplative and wistful as if it were a very serious cupcake.

Petting Zoo

This morning as the storm clouds threatened all our friends canceled on our day out to the Arboretum. Teri headed off to physical therapy so Vin and I decided to go by ourselves.

He had a great time at the petting zoo with the horse, goats, sheep, and chickens.

Spring Has Sprung

We bought the house in the heat of August, moved in during October and now I can’t wait to see what the neighborhood looks like when everything is green and alive again. Oh My God do I love spring! The last two days have been amazing and we’re loving getting outside in the warm sunshine and fresh air. Tonight I turned into a clone of Patty and was outside pulling weeds and sweeping the porch until it was too dark to see -hurry up time change!

Yesterday Vin and I rode our bike to the lake. I tracked our mileage and it’s exactly one mile. He got to feed the ducks for the first time and absolutely loved it. We went back again today and this time Teri came along and we ate our dinner at a picnic table. I had a moment where I thought, “This is what life is about. I couldn’t be happier than I am right now.” Each day I’m looking around at our life and I love our new house, and the neighborhood and I can’t wait until we’re outside all afternoon gardening and grilling out our dinner with the dogs and Vin running around acting like maniacs.

Bed Bugs

Teri is up and around most of the day but is still requiring lots of rest. She's found a few new friends to keep her company. She's taken to calling the cat a parrot since he prefers to be on her shoulder.

Teri, Vin and Finely playing with digital animal flashcards with sound. I love it when the boys feel comfortable in each other's houses. Finely usually heads straight for the dogs or the cats and then feels free to climb into our bed.
The other day Vin was at Zen's and the went straight to Marion's snack cabinet and helped himself to some crackers.
This was how I grew up and there are still women I call "mom" and regard with the utmost respect. I can see the beginnings of this already and am thrilled to be on the other end.
